WEDDINGS & BLESSINGS
We invite you to consider using St. Michael’s Church as the venue for your Wedding ceremony, or for a Marriage Blessing. St. Michael’s is a beautiful building which has lovely bright and open feel, with excellent visibility. We can accommodate any number up to 250, comfortably! The sense of God's presence is very strong through the architecture, furnishings and prayerful worship offered for hundreds of years. We also now have a magnificent organ, which not only can accompany your hymns, but be played as you process in and out of church. The Service is yours to arrange with us: we encourage you to think creatively about what would make your Wedding 'special'; with special readings, poems, music on CD or 'live'.
The new Marriage Regulations now make it a lot easier to marry in Lyme Regis Parish Church, even if you currently reside elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The regulations can be complex - but it is possible to have a 'Qualifying Connection' if you were baptised at St. Michael’s, or if your parents or grandparents currently reside in Lyme Regis, were married or baptised in our church. This is something worth investigating with the Team Vicar (contact below), if you are seriously interested. It is worth noting that neither you nor your partner needs to be baptised, nowadays, in order to be married in church. However, we hope that you do have some degree of Christian understanding and commitment, since we do use the Church of England Marriage Service!
We are also prepared give consideration to marrying couples where one or both parties have been married before. We follow the Guidelines laid down by the House of Bishops of the Church of England. It is too complicated to set out these Guidelines here, although they can be found in full detail on the Church of England's own website. Again, if you are seriously interested then please contact the Team Rector to arrange a meeting to discuss what is involved.
There are of course charges and fees for the Wedding Ceremony. These vary according to exactly what services you require! The standard / basic fee set by the Church of England in 2010 is: £285.50. In addition there will be charges for the use of the church and a verger of around £50. Additional optional costs include: The ringing of our bells before or after the Service, an organist, a small robed choir. These details can be agreed with the clergy conducting the Service. We think that in comparison with the rest of the costs incurred with your Wedding this will prove very good value!

Your other option is to arrange a Blessing of your Marriage. This might be shortly after your Civil Marriage ceremony, or maybe to celebrate a special Anniversary or seek a Blessing upon your Wedding rings. Again, please contact the Team Rector to discuss your requirements! We can either offer a very short and simple ceremony (for which we ask for a generous donation), or a much fuller ceremony (with hymns, and other music), for which there are some set charges.
If you wish to discuss your options with the clergy then please contact in the first instance the Team Vicar: Revd Jane Skinner on 01297 443763 or e mail on re[email protected]. She will arrange an initial meeting with you. Subsequently we will offer some Marriage Preparation using Christian-based materials, a planning meeting, and a Rehearsal a few days before the actual Service.
